The Washington Ranch

Located in Douglas County, WA

About This Website

This is the official website of the Washington Ranch, almost 2400 acres of land within sight of the Grand Coulee Dam, located in one of the most amazing geological areas in North America, the Grand Coulee.

The land has been in the family for nearly a hundred years. In 1906 Bushrod Washington, a Civil War veteran, and his family moved out to Washington State from Virginia. They settled on this property and built a homestead. Their efforts to irrigate the land for farming and livestock brought to them a vision of a huge dam that would cross the Columbia River, and solve the water needs of thousands of farmers for hundreds of miles.

Bushrod's son Nathaniel Washington was a leader in the later efforts to build this dam, and their dream was realized after their death as the Grand Coulee Dam was built during the 1930's, at the very site where Bushrod had his vision of just how productive this area could be.

On this hill you can see what appears to be the face of George Washington, lying on his back, looking up.
